What llms.txt is

llms.txt is a small Markdown file, usually published at /llms.txt. It gives a language model a curated map of the pages you want it to read: one title, a short summary, and sections of links.

The shape is strict. One H1, an optional blockquote summary, then H2 sections of link items written as - [Title](https://example.com/page): note. A second title, a relative URL, or an empty section is enough to make the file wrong, and nothing else on the site will tell you.

This page does not crawl your site and it does not write the descriptions for you. A list you already have, from a sitemap export or a spreadsheet, is enough for a starter file.

How it works

  1. Paste one page per line. Add the site name and a one-line summary.
  2. Read the file, copy it, or download llms.txt. Publish that file at the root of the site.
  3. Already have a file? Paste it into the checker. Each finding has a line number, a severity, and a plain-language fix.

Privacy

The text you paste stays in that one request. It is not written to disk and it is not logged. This tool never requests the URLs you paste. If analytics is enabled for this site, Plausible receives a page view and whether a generate or validate run passed. It does not receive your list, your URLs, or the site name.

FAQ

What is an llms.txt file?

A plain-text Markdown file, usually served at /llms.txt, that lists the pages you want a language model to read first. It has one title, an optional summary, and sections of links.

Which line formats can I paste?

One page per line: URL | Title, URL, Title, a tab between the URL and the title, Title - URL, or a URL on its own. An optional third field becomes the note. A line that starts with # sets the section for the pages that follow.

Does this tool fetch my site?

No. URLs are read as text. The server does not request your pages, your sitemap, or a live llms.txt file.

Is the text I paste stored?

No. It exists only for that request. Refresh the page and it is gone. Download the file or copy it onto your site. There is no account.

What is the difference between an error and a warning?

An error means the file breaks the format: a missing title, a second title, a link that is not absolute http or https, or a section with no links. A warning is worth a look: no summary, a duplicate URL, more than one host, a bare URL, or a very large file.
